i was born in kimberley and raised there in a tswana and coloured community.
my grandmother from my mothers side is coloured and her husband was tswana.
know nothing from my grandparents on my fathers side.
most people think the surname was spelt wrong in the heydays of apartheid and hence the lack of proof of the existence of the surname ngobeza.
but even the spelling of my surname as ngobeza does not shed to much light on my family history.
if any one can help trace my roots will highly appreciate your help
ngobeza is what people call ngobeni, of which i strongly suspect originates 4rm ngobese. when u hear old shangana peole praisin ngobeni they call it ngobeza. the problem is: the shangana people originate 4rm the zulu n in nguni surnames u dont have both ngobeni n ngobeza instead u have ngobese. i strongly suspect that this surname ngobeni/ngobeza is actually ngobese in its originality. the problem is this peole had 2 change the surnames as a result they were no longer speking zulu therefo considered themselves shangana n no longer zulu, so many things had to change. its sad but true bcoz evn when u ask our parents they dont know abt these things..i love our culture n dat of de zulus, but now i am frustrated coz i feel a whole part of me is connect there, bt no one is giving a clear way to trace..thanx buddy, just keep searching n eventually u'll find the way. take the above as guidelines. gud luck!!!!!!
